And… they are up on my etsy page if you are interested in buying them. All sold out! Thanks everyone!

Shortly after completing the perf bowl, I started getting a lot of comments from classmates and professors asking how they could get me to make a bowl for them. I realized I might have some kind of business opportunity on my hands, so I used that as an excuse to make some more. These are simpler, more practical, and I like being able to see the uninterrupted wood grain.

Because of the unique grain patterns of each bowl and my fascination with printmaking, I decided to laser engrave a logo, title, and edition numbers on the bottom of each bowl. To finish them I used mineral oil, a common finish for things like wooden cutting boards, because I wanted them to be completely food safe. Most clear coat finishes are toxic, and other more durable oils like tung oil are derived from nuts which could be dangerous for someone with allergies.

For me, the fascination lies in the process of making them. Planning out the tooling paths for the CNC mill, sanding and finishing, and creating a process video. Now that they are finished they are just sitting on my desk in studio. In order to get excited about them again I’m planning on making custom corrugate packages.

Like I mentioned above, I made sure to completely document every step of my process.
